Summary Explanation/Background

THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE HOUSING FINANCE AND COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item supports the Board's vision of "offering sustainable, compatible, innovative housing options for all income levels, including integrated, permanent supportive housing and rapid rehousing” and its corresponding goal to “strengthen stakeholder partnerships to increase the availability of affordable housing of all types (e.g., rental, purchase, supporting, etc.) countywide, in every community.”

On April 24, 2018 (Item No.16), the Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) adopted Resolution No. 2018-204, approving the allocation of $800,000, of State Housing Initiatives Partnership (“SHIP”) funding to the Broward County Minority Builders Coalition, Inc. (“BCMBC”).

Broward County (“County”) and BCMBC entered into an agreement wherein the BCMBC serves as a project management agency for County’s SHIP Minor Home Repair Strategy to provide services to owner-occupied homes of qualified very low, low, and moderate-income households. Three additional projects will be completed by BCMBC. This item approves a first amendment to provide an additional $107,500 in SHIP funds to BCMBC to assist it in completing the additional projects resulting in a total agreement amount of $907,500.
