Summary Explanation/Background

The Broward County Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services (“Medical Examiner”) is responsible for investigating human deaths occurring within its jurisdiction in accordance with state statutory requirements and rules and regulations in connection with such responsibilities. FLEB, a procurement organization, is engaged in the business of recovering anatomical gifts from deceased bodies for transplantation, fabrication, research, and medical education. County, through its Medical Examiner, is authorized to cooperate with procurement organizations in providing access to deceased bodies under the jurisdiction of the Medical Examiner.
