Summary Explanation/Background

The Agreement between Broward County and Sheriff of Broward County for the Operation of Call-Taking, Teletype (Queries Only), and Dispatch Services for the Consolidated Regional E-911 Communications System (“Agreement”), dated September 30, 2013, had an initial five-year term of that ended on September 30, 2018. The Agreement has been extended through amendments and a series of three-month extensions due to protracted negotiations between the County and Sheriff’s Office, including the establishment of performance measures that will be finalized during the extension period; the current amendment expires September 30, 2020.

This item, if approved, would authorize the County Administrator to execute a Fifth Amendment, effective retroactively to October 1, 2020, to extend the Agreement for up to two additional three-month extensions. This item is necessary to allow the draft amended Operator Agreement, which was previously approved by the Board, to be effective on January 1, 2021, so it aligns with the effective date of the amendments to the Municipal Regional Interlocal Agreements and Municipal Participation Agreements.
