Why Action is Necessary
Florida Statutes 932.7055(5)(a) requires that proceeds from the disposition of liens and forfeited property obtained from criminal procedures and corrections be deposited in a special law enforcement trust fund to be used for law enforcement purposes. Recommendation of the Sheriff and Board approval are necessary to appropriate LETF funds.

Previous Action Taken
On September 10, 2020, the Board of County Commissioners adopted budget Resolution No. 2020-416 transferring funds within the Law Enforcement Trust Funds in the amount of $7,782 to provide matching funds for a grant from the Florida Department of Children and Families. Those funds were provided to match the Enhanced Law Enforcement grant. The $50,000 requested in this item would be used as matching funds for the InVest grant.
Summary Explanation/Background
The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) supports this LETF request for matching funds for increased grant funds BSO has received from the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence (FCADV) (now the Florida Department of Children and Families) in the amount of $150,000 for Fiscal Year 2020-21 (project period July 1, 2020, through June 30, 2021). The FCADV grant will fund one Criminal Investigations Detective working solely on domestic violence cases. As a condition of the grant award, BSO is required to provide matching funds in the amount of $50,000 for a total project cost of $200,000. The requested funds are to cover the full match requirement of the grant.
