Summary Explanation/Background

The proposed Ordinance supports the Board Goal to "Collaborate with public and private partners to find creative, equitable, and responsible solutions to systemic community problems."

The Board's consideration of this item will be based on the Substitute Ordinance distributed by Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness as Additional Material #82(4) for Item No. 82 on the November 10, 2020, Board Agenda, which is attached hereto as Exhibit 1.  A memorandum from the Office of the County Attorney summarizing the differences between the version of the proposed Ordinance that printed with the November 10 agenda item and Commissioner Holness's Substitute Proposed Ordinance is attached as Exhibit 2.

This item would enable the Board to consider establishing a Racial Equity Task Force ("Task Force") to make recommendations to the Board to assist in identifying racial inequities in Broward County, developing policies aimed at eliminating racism, and working toward greater racial equity in Broward County.

The proposed Task Force would consist of thirty-five members (35), twelve (12) of whom would be nominated by a member of the Board and the remaining members nominated by various community organizations and governmental entities.
