Summary Explanation/Background

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) will need to approve new County Commission districts by the end of 2021. Due to a 2018 amendment to Section 2.01(A) of the Broward County Charter, this redistricting effort will require Broward County to contract with a Florida four-year college or university to design the new districts.  Upon completion of the redistricting design by the college or university, the Board will be required to approve one of those designs. A memorandum containing more details regarding the redistricting process is attached as Exhibit 1.

This item will allow the Board to discuss and provide direction concerning the process to select an eligible college or university to prepare the redistricting design.
