Summary Explanation/Background

The proposed Resolution, if adopted, would reduce the annual permit fee for wheelchair accessible taxicabs from $200 to $50. It also would assist the wheelchair accessible vehicle taxicab industry by waiving the annual operating permit fee for the time period from March 1, 2020, through December 31, 2021.  Annual operating permit fees already paid for wheelchair accessible taxicab registration or renewal for this time period will be refunded.

Fiscal Impact

Fiscal Impact/Cost Summary

There are 84 wheelchair accessible taxis registered in the County.  Waiving the permit fee for those vehicles in calendar year 2021 would reduce revenues by $16,800 in that year. Permanently reducing the permit fee by $150 for those vehicles would reduce revenues by $12,600 in calendar year 2022 and all future years. The Environmental and Consumer Protection Division estimates that permit fees paid for 25 wheelchair accessible taxis since March 1, 2020, will be refunded, totaling $5,000.
