Summary Explanation/Background
Kristin Jacobs, a former Broward County Commissioner and Mayor, devoted her life to protecting and preserving Florida's environmental resources. Among her many achievements, Kristin Jacobs was instrumental in the development of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, an initiative that brought together the counties of Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Monroe in order to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions, implement adaption strategies, and build climate resilience across the Southeast Florida region.
As a way of honoring Kristin Jacobs' lifelong devotion to protecting Florida's environmental resources, the proposed Resolution, if adopted, would express the Broward County Board of County Commissioners' support of Senate Bill 588 (filed by Florida Senator Lauren Book) and House Bill 217 (filed by Florida Representative Christine Hunschofsky), designating the Southeast Florida Coral Reef Ecosystem Conservation Area as the Kristin Jacobs Coral Reef Ecosystem Conservation Area.
