Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/TRAFFIC ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
This item supports the Board of County Commissioners’ value of “cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network”; and Goal to “support the development, design, and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses”.
The Florida Department of Transportation is currently managing the implementation of the Prospect Road improvement project, located between Commercial Boulevard and Dixie Highway. This portion of Prospect Road is a County road located in the Cities of Fort Lauderdale, Oakland Park and Tamarac. As part of the project, bicycle lanes will be installed on both sides of the road. Current Broward County standards allow for small, regularly spaced segments of green-colored pavement markings to be installed as bicycle lane designations. All three cities want to install continuous green pavement markings along the bicycle lanes and have agreed to maintain these markings.
This revocable license agreement with the City of Fort Lauderdale will allow for the installation and maintenance of continuous green pavement markings on the bicycle lanes located on the westbound side of Prospect Road from west of NW 15th Avenue to NW 10th Avenue. The agreement will also ensure that if the pavement markings are not maintained by the City, the County reserves the right to remove the markings.
County staff has received all final documents and the revocable licenses for all three cities are being presented together in the same meeting for the Board of County Commissioners’ approval.
The agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney and the Risk Management Division.
