MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2021-104 Amending the Broward County Administrative Code, the title of which is as follows:
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, AMENDING SECTION 14.227 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE ("ADMINISTRATIVE CODE"); PERMITTING COUNTY EMPLOYEES TO USE PERSONAL DAYS, ANNUAL LEAVE, OR UNPAID LEAVE FOR RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Why Action is Necessary
A Resolution directing the County Administrator to publish notice of public hearing to consider adoption of the Resolution Amending the Broward County Administrative Code was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners at its meeting of February 23, 2021.
What Action Accomplishes
Permits the Board to consider adopting a Resolution amending the Administrative Code to expressly confirm that employees are permitted to use personal days, annual leave, or unpaid leave to observe religious holidays.

Summary Explanation/Background
Broward County is rich in its diversity, ethnicities, and cultures. Our respect for the broad range of faiths and belief systems practiced by Broward County residents represents one of the strengths of our community.
The proposed amendment to the Administrative Code, if adopted, would expressly confirm that full time and part time 20+ County employees are permitted to take religious holidays as paid days off using available personal days or annual leave, or as unpaid days off without the use of any leave, subject to County operational needs.
