Summary Explanation/Background
This item supports Value F: Offering sustainable, compatible, innovative housing options for all income-levels, including integrated permanent supportive housing.

The Broward Permanent Supportive Housing Program provides housing and supportive services to homeless individuals and/or families with severe and persistent mental illness to stabilize and prepare them for a life of independence. This intervention provides long-term assistance with rent payments and long-term intensive case management, designed specifically for chronically homeless individuals and families. These clients are among the most vulnerable of the homeless population and have a long history of homelessness and a disabling condition. Permanent supportive housing programs provide a higher level of involvement with case management to ensure that clients continue to maintain their housing placement. The housing will be placed throughout Broward County.

This item was originally placed on the April 6, 2021 Board agenda as Item 99, but the item was deferred to the April 20, 2021 Board meeting at the Board's request.
