Summary Explanation/Background
Broward County is the gateway to Latin America, the Caribbean and other world regions. With a competitive and strategically located air and sea port, with direct rail connectivity, Broward County enjoys unique advantages key to becoming a global hub for domestic and international trade opportunities. This event will increase our on-going ability to restore the economy, rebuild our communities and sustain our low unemployment performance while serving to strengthen our ties with overseas interests and boosting Broward County and the South Florida economy.
Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness will travel internationally on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners from May 23rd - May 28th, 2021 for a mission and business development trip to Dubai. While there, Commissioner Holness will meet with local Chambers of Commerce, attend trade and manufacturing meetings, meet with elected officials and business owners and attend cultural exhibitions and business conferences. U.S. goods and services trade with Dubai total an estimated $24.3 billion. Exports were $20 billion; imports were $4.3 billion.
In addition, Commissioner Holness will be able to promote the 2021 Broward County Florida International Trade and Cultural Expo (FITCE) scheduled for Fall 2021, an annual County-sponsored event under the supervision of the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (OESBD). This trade mission and business development trip is to further encourage attendance at FITCE, boost Florida - Dubai trade and promote tourism and business development.
This agenda item is goal related. It will increase the economic strength and impact of revenue-generating County enterprises balancing economic, environmental, and community needs.
