Summary Explanation/Background
The Republic of Haiti (“Haiti”) has scheduled the first round of parliamentary elections on September 19, 2021. Haiti and people of Haitian ancestry have played an important role in American history and have especially strong cultural and economic ties with South Florida. The federal government has the ability to encourage free, fair, and credible elections in Haiti, which will help support the long-term stability of the country and, among other things, allow it to strengthen its economic ties with Broward County.
The proposed Resolution urges the federal government to provide Haiti with technical assistance, training, financial support, and security support for the upcoming elections.
