Summary Explanation/Background

On October 20, 2020 (Agenda Item No. 88), the Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) directed the Office of the County Attorney, in consultation with the Office of Economic and Small Business Development (“OESBD”), to draft an Ordinance to create a local business preference program for businesses that have been designated as graduates from the County Business Enterprise Program. Since then, OESBD has been working to design the program. This item will allow the Board to discuss the design of the proposed program.

This agenda item is goal related. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners envision a vibrant economy with a diverse, skilled workforce, in a County offering unique advantages that attract all types of businesses to create equitable, countywide prosperity. This item supports the Board’s goal of “attracting and retaining all types of business”, through the value of “ensuring economic opportunities for all people and businesses in Broward.”

This item was originally placed on the May 4, 2021 Board agenda as Item 52, but the item was deferred to the May 18, 2021 Board meeting at the Board’s request.
