Summary Explanation/Background
THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND GROWTH MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND PERMITTING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This action supports the Board's value of "Encouraging investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices and environmental protection": Goal 1: "Seek funding for, implement policies and pursue projects promoting, the use of alternative energies and sustainable practices." Funding a tree planting project promotes environmental protection through sustainable practices.
The Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea (Town) has submitted a request for funding from the Tree Preservation Trust Fund for the purchase and installation of trees for a tree planting project along Seagrape Drive. The Town will provide for the future maintenance of the trees. The Tree Preservation Trust Fund currently contains approximately $18,168 intended for use within the Town (See Exhibit 2). The funds were collected from contributions in lieu of tree replacement for Tree Removal Licenses issued within the Town.
