MOTION TO ADOPT Resolution No. 2021-335 directing the County Administrator to publish Notice of Public Hearing to be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., in Room 422 of the Governmental Center to consider adoption of a proposed Resolution amending the Broward County Administrative Code, the title of which is as follows:
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA, PERTAINING TO ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION DIVISION FEES; AMENDING SECTIONS 40.9 AND 40.10 OF THE BROWARD COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE CODE (“ADMINISTRATIVE CODE”); UPDATING WELLNESS CLINIC (“CLINIC”) FEES; DELETING SERVICES NOT PROVIDED AT THE CLINIC; ESTABLISHING RATES FOR CERTAIN EMERGENCY VETERINARY SERVICES PERFORMED AT THE CLINIC; PROVIDING FOR WAIVER OF WELLNESS CLINIC FEES; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

The Broward County Charter requires the posting of notice and a public hearing to adopt amendments to the Broward County Administrative Code (“Administrative Code”).

Summary Explanation/Background
THE ANIMAL CARE AND ADOPTION DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THIS ITEM.
The Animal Care and Adoption Division offers low-cost services through its Wellness Clinic (“Clinic”), with fees set by the Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) through the adoption of Resolution No. 2020-080 on February 25, 2020. If approved by the Board, this item will amend Section 40.9 of the Administrative Code to update fees for services offered at the Clinic and delete services that are no longer offered at the Clinic. In addition, this item would establish a fee schedule for services performed by the Clinic veterinarian if, during the provision of other services on an animal, the veterinarian determines that emergency medical services are needed and are in the best interest of the animal receiving services. Section 40.10 of the Administrative Code would also be amended to provide for waiver of certain Clinic fees when the services provided further the Animal Care and Adoption Division’s goals of population abatement and the avoidance or spread of disease.
