Summary Explanation/Background

The Interlocal Agreement with the City of Pompano Beach and the Pompano Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (“CRA”) requires the County to provide $10 million in funding to directly eliminate residential slum and blight in the residential area of the CRA.  Under the Interlocal Agreement, an Advisory Board was established to provide nonbinding recommendations to the County regarding proposed projects.

The Advisory Board met on July 13, 2021, and discussed a number of projects. One member of the Advisory Board presented a list of projects compiled from community feedback (Exhibit 1). The Advisory Board supported recommending most of the projects listed on Exhibit 1. The community also provided extensive public comment at the meeting, a summary of which is attached as Exhibit 2.

This item permits the Board to discuss the projects considered by the Advisory Board and to direct and provide all necessary authority to the County Administrator to implement a pilot project as follows: for 10 homes in the residential district of the CRA, perform such repair and remediation as deemed appropriate by the County Administrator to remediate slum and blight, at a cost of up to $10,000 for any home, for a total cost not to exceed $100,000.
