Summary Explanation/Background
At the August 24, 2021 Regular Meeting, the Board amended Section 5-557, Broward County Code of Ordinances, to add a County Commissioner to the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) as required by state law. The purpose of the AHAC is “to review and make recommendations regarding the local affordable housing incentives, including incentive strategies in accordance with Rule 67-37.010, Florida Administrative Code…”
The composition of the AHAC is one appointment per County Commissioner by categorical draw and two appointments at-large (total of eleven appointments). To accommodate the appointment of a County Commissioner to the AHAC, the category of “one citizen who represents essential services personnel, as defined in the local housing assistance plan” was deleted at the August 24, 2021 Regular Meeting. This categorical appointment was vacant and belonged to Commission District 2. The category of “one citizen who is actively engaged in the banking or mortgage banking industry in connection with affordable housing” is currently filled by an appointee at-large.
This item shuffles the category of “one citizen who is actively engaged in the banking or mortgage banking industry in connection with affordable housing” from at-large to replace the category in Commission District 2. The item also retains the current appointee in the same category.
The Board must choose which County Commissioner to appoint to the AHAC.
