Summary Explanation/Background
THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS/BOARDS SECTION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THIS ITEM.
Motion A: The Racial Equity Task Force (RETF) is comprised of 37 members appointed by the Broward County Commission. The Director of the Human Services Department nominates Natalia Isabel Allen to be appointed by the County Commission to serve on the RETF in the category of “Broward County residents who are engaged in racial equity work in one of the County's systems of care for child welfare, housing, and homelessness, or health care services, each nominated by the Director of the Human Services Department, or designee.”
The County Attorney has determined that Ms. Allen qualifies for appointment (Exhibit 1).
Motion B: Approval of this item would give rise to certain employment conflicts under Section 112.313(7)(a), Florida Statutes, which provides that “no public officer...shall have or hold any employment or contractual relationship with any business entity...which is...doing business with an agency of which he or she is an officer or employee.” In accordance with Section 112.313(12), Florida Statutes, Board approval is required to waive any conflict arising under Section 112.313(7)(a), Florida Statutes. An effective waiver requires a two-thirds vote of the Section 112.313(7)(a), Florida Statutes.
