Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION AND ENGINEERING DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
This item supports the Board of County Commissioners' Value of "cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network" with the Goal of supporting "the development, design and construction of sustainable, multi-modal transportation facilities throughout the County, to meet the demands of residents, travelers, and businesses."
NW 19th Street from NW 49th Avenue to SR-7 is a two-lane County road in the City of Lauderhill. The Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has funds under its Transportation Improvement Program to design and construct bicycle lanes and sidewalks along this road segment, which is on the MPO priority list as identified in the SR-7 Multimodal Improvement Corridor Study. MPO collaborated with Broward County, FDOT and the City of Lauderhill to develop the project. FDOT will be responsible for project design, construction, and construction administration and Broward County will continue to own and maintain the road after construction of the proposed improvements. The project will be implemented with no change in the number of vehicle travel lanes.
In order to move the project forward in design, the MPO and FDOT require a resolution showing support from the Board of County Commissioners. Staff from the County’s Complete Streets Team have reviewed the proposed improvements and support the implementation of the project. Approval of this Resolution will formally affirm the County’s support for the project.
The Resolution has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of County Attorney.
