Summary Explanation/Background

REGIONAL EMERGENCY SERVICES AND COMMUNICATIONS AND THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SECTION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.

Pursuant to Section 252.373, Florida Statutes and Rule Chapter 27P-19, Florida Administrative Code, the Florida Division of Emergency Management offers annual county base grant funding from the Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance (EMPA) Trust Fund to assist counties with the implementation and administration of local emergency management programs, including planning and training activities as outlined in the EMPA Grant Scope of Work.

Retroactive approval is requested, as the grant agreement was received after July 1, which is the start of the State fiscal year. Based on Fiscal Year 2021 legislative appropriations, Broward County’s State grant award this Fiscal Year is $105,806. The award must be expended by June 30, 2022. EMPA Program funds may be used for all day-to-day activities in support of the four phases of emergency management (preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation). The grant funding will be utilized to support two existing positions within the Emergency Management Section.
