The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requires Board approval of a Resolution authorizing the execution of Public Transportation Grant Agreements

 

What Action Accomplishes

This action provides the County with $10,693,430 in public transit block grant funds for Fiscal Year 2022 transit operations made available by the FDOT, on an annual basis, for the purpose of providing transit services in Broward County.  For State Fiscal Year 2022, no County Match is required due to fiscal constraints related to COVID-19.

Summary Explanation/Background

THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

 

This item supports the Board’s Value for "Cooperatively Delivering an Efficient and Accessible Regional Intermodal Transportation Network".

 

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) provides Broward County funding (block grant) on an annual basis, pursuant to Chapter 341, Florida Statutes, for assistance in funding operations for fixed-route bus service. These state funds are available to offset operating expenses incurred by the Broward County Transportation Department (BCT) and generally require an equal local match; however, there is no County Match required for State Fiscal Year 2022 due to fiscal constraints related to COVID-19. FDOT, through this Public Transportation Grant Agreement (PTGA), will provide $10,693,430 for Fiscal Year 2022, to support transit operations in Broward County.

 

The PTGA (Exhibit 2) has been reviewed and approved as to form by the County Attorney’s Office.

 

County approval of the Resolution and execution of the PTGA is required prior to FDOT executing said agreement.
