Summary Explanation/Background
THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This action supports the Board's value of "Encouraging investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices and environmental protection": Goal 1: Seek funding for, implement policies and pursue projects promoting, the use of alternative energies and sustainable practices." Funding tree planting projects promotes environmental protection through sustainable practices.

The City of North Lauderdale (City) has submitted a request for funding from the Tree Preservation Trust Fund for the purchase and installation of trees for tree planting projects along McNab Road, Rock Island Road, and S.W. 81st Avenue. The City will provide for future maintenance of the trees. The Tree Preservation Trust Fund currently contains approximately $190,476 intended for use within the City (See Exhibit 2). The funds were collected from contributions in lieu of tree replacement for Tree Removal Licenses issued within the City.
