Summary Explanation/Background

THE PURCHASING DIVISION AND THE PORT EVERGLADES DEPARTMENT RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

The Mobile Harbor Crane identified as MHC-1 at Port Everglades is manufactured by Gottwald. Due to a merger/acquisition, Gottwald is now owned by KONECRANES, Inc. and is the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vendor to provide spare parts, engineering, and related maintenance, engineering design, and retrofit services for MHC-1.  Substitutes from other manufacturers do not exist and would not be interchangeable with the crane. Due to the 40-year service life of MHC-1, standardization is requested for KONECRANES, Inc.

On January 27, 2022, the Purchasing Division posted a Request for Information (RFI)/Notice of Intent to ascertain if the parts, materials, and services needed for the Mobile Harbor Crane from KONECRANES, Inc. is available from other providers. The RFI closed on February 9, 2022, with a single response from KONECRANES, Inc. stating that they are the OEM and sole provider of all proprietary equipment and commercially available parts and services for Gottwald Mobile Harbor Crane in the United States.

Based on the proprietary design, manufacturing, and service life of the Gottwald Mobile Harbor Crane at Port Everglades, standardization is requested to ensure continuous operations of MHC-1 at Port Everglades (Exhibit 1).
