Why Action is Necessary

Florida’s Community Planning Act, Chapter 163.3177(3)(b), requires update of the Comprehensive Plan’s Capital Improvement Element Schedule of Capital Improvements annually.

 

What Action Accomplishes

Adds the adopted 2022 schedule of capital improvements of the Board of County Commissioners and the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization to the Broward Next Broward County Comprehensive Plan’s Capital Improvement Element.

On April 26, 2022, the Board set a public hearing for May 24, 2022 (Item No. 13), to consider enacting the proposed ordinance.

 

Summary Explanation/Background

THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE URBAN PLANNING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

 

Chapter 163, Part II, Florida Statutes requires the comprehensive plan to contain a Capital Improvements Element (CIE) which must include a schedule of capital improvements which lists any publicly funded projects of federal, state, or local government; projects necessary to ensure that adopted level-of-service standards are achieved and maintained for at least a five-year period; and projects included in the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Transportation Improvement Program. This schedule must be enacted annually into the CIE after the new budgets are adopted.
