Agreements with external agencies require approval by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Commission”).
Motion B. Section 129.06(2)(d), Florida Statutes, requires a budget Resolution to recognize revenue.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE ELDERLY AND VETERANS SERVICES DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE ACTIONS.
These actions support the Commission’s value of "approaching human services collaboratively and compassionately, with special emphasis on the most vulnerable," and the goal to "effectively advocate for and acquire municipal, state, and federal financial support to equitably address health and human services needs of the entire community, through a truly coordinated system of care.” This amendment increases funds for services to clients afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, and their caregivers, thus addressing the special needs of eligible individuals suffering from the illness and their families.
The Alzheimer’s Disease Initiative (“ADI”) was legislatively created 30 years ago with the major goal of providing funds for the continuum of services to meet the changing needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, as well as their families. The Florida Department of Elder Affairs coordinates and develops policy to carry out the statutory requirements for this program.
Elderly and Veteran Services Division (“EVSD”) has served as the lead agency for aging services in the County since 1986. Through this amendment, EVSD will enroll more clients from the waitlist to meet the increasing number of individuals and families afflicted by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. ADI respite includes case management, in-home services, adult day care, emergency and extended care for caregivers, and caregiver training and support. No outcomes have been established.
State ADI funds are distributed through the Areawide Council on Aging of Broward County, Inc. (“Council”). The Council is acting on behalf of the State of Florida.
This Amendment (Exhibit 1) is in the Council’s format and was reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney. The Council will sign last following the Commission’s approval.
