Summary Explanation/Background

THE HUMAN SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THE COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This action supports the Commission’s value of “approaching human services collaboratively and compassionately, with special emphasis on the most vulnerable” and the goal to “collaborate with public and private partners to find creative, equitable, and responsible solutions to systemic community problems, especially permanent, supportive housing for persons experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.” The additional funds support youth’s participation in JA’s workforce development program.

Retroactive approval is requested due to the delay in Broward County’s receipt of the budget information required for the Amendment.

On September 9, 2021 (Item No. 4), the Commission approved an additional option period of Agreement No. 18-CP-CSA-JRACH-01 between Broward County and JA in the amount of $300,000 for Fiscal Year 2021-2022. On September 21, 2021, at the Commission’s Fiscal Year 2021-2022 budget workshop, JA requested an additional $200,000 to support youth’s participation in JA’s workforce development program. On May 10, 2022 (Item No. 28), the Commission approved one-time, non-recurring Fiscal Year 2021-2022 funding for JA in the amount of $200,000.
