Summary Explanation/Background
The National Association of Counties' (NACo) Annual Conference will take place July 21-24, 2022 in Adams County, Colorado. NACo officers will be elected for the 2022-2023 term during the annual business meeting.
Broward County may cast 30 votes for contested NACo leadership races, or on NACo platform changes and policy resolutions, if any. To exercise these votes, Broward County must electronically submit its completed voting credentials form to NACo by July 18, 2022.
The voting delegate and alternate voting delegate must be a paid registrant to the conference. Designation of a voting delegate and alternate voting delegate allows either person to pick up the County's ballot and to cast all eligible votes. In previous years, the Board has designated attending commissioners and/or staff from the Intergovernmental Affairs/Boards Section of County Administration as the County's voting/alternate voting delegate.
Traditionally, Florida votes as a unit and the Florida Association of Counties holds a caucus meeting at the conference for all attending county delegates to discuss and select the candidate of choice for Florida's counties. This year's caucus meeting has not been scheduled yet but is usually held on the Saturday of the conference weekend. Officer positions for 1st Vice President, President and Past President are not contested.
NACo's Memorandum regarding voting credentials, Frequently Asked Questions, Checklist, and Credentials packet is attached as Exhibit 1.
