MOTION TO DIRECT County Administrator to investigate and evaluate options for the development of a new Broward County Government Center and to present those options to the Board at the first County Commission meeting in August 2022; and to direct the County Attorney to analyze and report to the Board during or prior to such meeting regarding (i) the required steps to terminate existing contracts related to the Joint Governmental Center Campus Project; (ii) options to continue existing contracts where doing so might be advantageous to the County; and (iii) the County’s ability to utilize existing written work product developed under such contracts in connection with the development of a new Broward County Government Center. Why Action is Necessary
It appears likely, due primarily to dramatically increased construction costs, the County and City of Fort Lauderdale will no longer pursue the current Joint Governmental Center Campus Project. Other options must therefore be explored.

Summary Explanation/Background
At a May 5, 2022, Board workshop, a general consensus was reached that the continued viability of the Joint Governmental Center Campus Project would depend on various factors, including that the County and the City of Fort Lauderdale fully develop and approve both a “cohabitation agreement” and the competitive solicitation (RFP) for the project on or before the Board’s June 14 meeting. Since May 5, no material progress has been made on either document. Additionally, multiple representatives of the County and the City have commented that the dramatically increased projected construction cost of the project have placed into significant question the project’s continuing viability as a joint initiative. The County needs to consider additional options, which requires the information staff is directed to provide pursuant to this item.
