Summary Explanation/Background
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/WATER AND WASTEWATER SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.
Broward County provides retail water and wastewater services to approximately 58,000 customers throughout the County's Water and Wastewater Services service area. The recommended Fiscal Year 2023 operating and capital program budgets for the Water and Wastewater Fund include increases in water and wastewater retail rates effective for services rendered on or after October 1, 2022. The new rates are necessary to fund operating costs, debt service costs, and cash-financed capital. The proposed Fiscal Year 2023 rates reflect an overall increase in water revenue of 5.72% and sewer revenue of 1.91%, for a cumulative overall revenue increase of 3.98%. An average residential customer using 5,000 gallons of water per month will experience an overall increase of $2.25 (3.13%) in their monthly water and wastewater bill, from $71.79 to $74.04. All miscellaneous fees remain the same.
