Summary Explanation/Background

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/WATER AND WASTEWATER SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

Broward County owns and operates the North Regional Wastewater Transmission, Treatment, and Disposal System on behalf of Broward County and 11 Large Users (the cities of Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Deerfield Beach, Lauderhill, North Lauderdale, Oakland Park, Pompano Beach, and Tamarac; North Springs Improvement District; Parkland Utilities; and Royal Utility). The County's agreements with these Large Users require that the rates charged for these services be revised annually.

The recommended Fiscal Year 2023 operating budget includes increases in Large User wastewater rates, effective for services rendered on or after October 1, 2022. The proposed rates represent a 11.8% net increase in charges to Large Users. Staff has notified the Large Users and has advised them of the proposed rates.
