Summary Explanation/Background

THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE BUILDING CODE DIVISION (BCD) RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

It is the policy of the Board of County Commissioners to offer building code services to local municipalities that seek to either supplement their building departments or transfer permitting responsibilities to the County in a full-service arrangement. For those municipalities who do not convene their own Unsafe Structures Board, they can contract with BCD to have their cases researched and presented to the County’s Minimum Housing/Unsafe Structures Board at set rates to cover the costs of service. Fees are assessed based on the most current County fee schedule.

The attached amended Interlocal Agreement with the City of North Lauderdale (Exhibit 1) is for representation at hearings before the Broward County Minimum Housing/Unsafe Structures Board. BCD will invoice the City on a monthly basis for actual services provided. The Agreement requires reimbursement from the City within 30 days of the date of the invoice.

BCD currently provides similar services to municipalities including, but not limited to, Cooper City, Dania Beach, Miramar, and Oakland Park.

The Office of the County Attorney has approved this agreement as to form.
