Summary Explanation/Background

CULTURAL DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTIONS.

This item supports the Board’s value of “cultivating community culture, arts, recreation and life-long learning” and goals relating to providing diverse artistic, cultural, educational and historical amenities and programs that contribute to a vibrant, multi-cultural and economically viable community.

The grant funding from the State of Florida will provide supplemental funding for Division marketing initiatives, Signature Event, and staff support. Grant funds will be used to address the following goals: to grow Broward County’s arts infrastructure through increasing financial investment and advocacy for the benefit of all residents and visitors; to develop neighborhood communities through the arts by using local artists and presenting impactful programs; to amplify the stories of Broward’s diverse grantee artists and organizations to raise public awareness and elevate the visibility of the arts. In addition, grant funds will also be used to supplement funding of the Division’s front-line Office Support Specialist position. The Office Support Specialist position is essential to the Division’s operation as the incumbent provides support services to staff in all of the Division’s lines of business, Marketing, Grants, Community Engagement, and Public Art & Design.

The County is required to use the Grant Agreement which is in the State of Florida’s contract format to receive the State of Florida’s funds. The Grant Agreement has been reviewed and approved as to form by the Office of the County Attorney and has been reviewed and approved as to insurance requirements by the Risk Management Division.
