Summary Explanation/Background

THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER AND TRAUMA SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

The initial Broward County Trauma Plan was approved in May 1992 and has been subsequently updated, the latest being in November 2017. Since that time, the Trauma Management Agency, a subsection of the Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services, has continued to work closely with hospitals of which include three Trauma Centers, and licensed Advanced Life Support services to prevent and reduce trauma-related injuries/deaths for the visitors and residents of the County.

The Plan identifies certain criteria required for a trauma agency, as well as for the providers of trauma services within the Broward County Trauma System.

Rule 64J-2.009, Florida Administrative Code, identifies that any county that wishes to implement and maintain a trauma agency must complete a plan and update that plan every five years. Additionally, a Public Hearing must be held to provide documentation that the Board endorsed the initial plan or plan updates. Once approved by the Board, the 2023-2027 Broward County Trauma Plan will be forwarded to the State of Florida, Department of Health, Division of Emergency Preparedness and Community Support, Office of Trauma.
