Why Action is Necessary
Rule 64J-2.009, Florida Administrative Code, requires the County to hold a Public Hearing to endorse the 2023-2027 Broward County Trauma Plan updates prior to submission of the Plan to the State of Florida, Department of Health, Division of Emergency Preparedness and Community Support, Office of Trauma.

What Action Accomplishes
Reaffirms the County's desire to maintain a Trauma Management Agency to provide a system-wide approach for trauma medical care to reduce death and injury to the citizens and visitors of Broward County.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER AND TRAUMA SERVICES RECOMMENDS APPROVAL.

The initial Broward County Trauma Plan was approved in May 1992 and has been subsequently updated, the latest being in November 2017. Since that time, the Trauma Management Agency, a subsection of the Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services, has continued to work closely with hospitals of which include three Trauma Centers, and licensed Advanced Life Support services to prevent and reduce trauma-related injuries/deaths for the visitors and residents of the County.

The Plan identifies certain criteria required for a trauma agency, as well as for the providers of trauma services within the Broward County Trauma System.
