Summary Explanation/Background

In 2021 the Intergovernmental Affairs/Boards Section ("IABS") conducted a "sunset review" of all existing Broward County boards, authorities, and agencies, as required by Section 2.09 of the Broward County Charter and Sections 1-244 through 1-247 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances ("Code"). As a result of the sunset review, IABS recommended to the Board of County Commissioners ("Board") that certain boards, authorities, and agencies be "retained with changes" to the applicable authorizing legislation, while others be retained without changes to the applicable authorizing legislation. On February 8, 2022, the Board directed the Office of the County Attorney to prepare a resolution or ordinance, as applicable, to effectuate IABS's recommendations.

The proposed Ordinance, if enacted by the Board, will implement IABS's recommendations resulting in changes to the Code. A separate item on the November 15, 2022, meeting agenda addresses IABS's recommendations resulting in changes to the Broward County Administrative Code.
