Summary Explanation/Background

This item furthers County Commission Goal: "Ensuring residents have an affordable place to live by offering sustainable, compatible, innovative, accessible, affordable housing options for all income-levels, including integrated, permanent supportive housing and zoning that helps residents build equity."

On September 20, 2022, the Board directed the Office of the County Attorney, in coordination with County staff, to draft a Resolution amending the Broward County Administrative Code ("Administrative Code") to streamline certain processes to expedite the review and permitting of affordable housing projects (Item No. 59). This proposed Resolution amends Chapter 27, Article XXXIX, of the Administrative Code to provide for the submission of a certification from the Housing Finance Division confirming a project's qualification as affordable housing ("Certification") with applications submitted to the Resilient Environment Department and its divisions for licenses and permits. The proposed Resolution requires reviewing agencies to expedite the processing and review of applications submitted with a Certification.
