Summary Explanation/Background

On September 20, 2022 (Agenda Item No. 58), the Board directed the Office of the County Attorney, in coordination with County staff, to review and propose changes to the Broward County Administrative Code (“Administrative Code”) to modify the process for naming property owned by Broward County and property Broward County is authorized to name (“County Property”). This proposed Resolution revises the procedures and criteria in Section 18.43 of the Administrative Code to 1) include a procedure for review by County staff of all proposals to name County Property prior to the Board’s consideration of the naming proposal, 2) remove the restriction on naming property in honor of living persons, and 3) provide that County Property should not be named after a person who at the time of the naming holds public office, unless the person will not seek reelection or election to another public office.
