Summary Explanation/Background

This item supports the Board's Healthy Community Goal of "cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and life-long learning."

The Broward County Cultural Division ("Division") currently administers three grant award programs that provide funding to various County-based artists and cultural organizations: (1) General Operating Support; (2) Program Support; and (3) Cultural and Artistic ("C&A") Facilities Capital Support.

Section 29.15 of the Administrative Code sets forth the composition of review panels that evaluate the applications for these grant award programs. Because of difficulties filling the review panels, the Division desires to change the number of review panel members for two of the programs (General Operating Support and Program Support). The Division also seeks to remove the requirement that all of the grant panels include a Broward County Cultural Council member and that the C&A Facilities Capital Support grant panel include a member of the Tourist Development Council. The C&A Facilities Capital Support grant program is no longer exclusively funded using Tourist Development Tax funds.

The proposed Resolution, if adopted, would implement the changes requested by the Division.
