Why Action is Necessary
Section 1-88.a.9. of the Broward County Code of Ordinances, requires that the Broward County Board of County Commissioners (“Board”) approve the artist's design proposal when the art budget for the artwork portion of the capital improvement project total is $100,000 or more.

Approves the design proposal from artist Amy Cheng so that staff can proceed with fabrication and installation of the artwork.

THE BROWARD COUNTY CULTURAL DIVISION AND THE BROWARD COUNTY CULTURAL COUNCIL RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This item supports the Board's Healthy Community Goal of cultivating community culture, arts, recreation, and life-long learning.
The artist was selected by the Artist Selection Panel on August 20, 2020, the design proposal was approved by the Artist Selection Panel on October 27, 2022, the artist and design were approved by the Public Art & Design Committee on November 9, 2022, and the Broward County Cultural Council on December 8, 2022.
Exhibit 1 is the proposed design for artwork by the artist Amy Cheng. The artwork will be a terrazzo floor with a design that displays scattered palm fronds in a surrounding landscape, using colors that reference beaches, water, and a tropical environment. The proposed design may vary slightly based on factors such as site conditions and additional agency input.
If approved, this item will approve the design proposal from artist Amy Cheng for the Property Appraiser and Value Adjustment Board Office project in an amount not to exceed $290,000 ($265,000 art; $25,000 contingency).
