Why Action is Necessary

Section 20.31(b)(3), Broward County Administrative Code, requires that the Board of County Commissioners (“Commission”) approves all state and federal grant agreements.

 

What Action Accomplishes

The Department of Health funds will allow the Medical Examiner to continue the maintenance plan for the new Liquid Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer which is an Analytical Instrument for the Toxicology Department.

Summary Explanation/Background

THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER AND TRAUMA SERVICES RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE ACTION.

 

This item supports the Board’s value of “[C] consistently delivering responsive, efficient, quality services to the public…” and attendant goal of  “…addressing the lines of business and needs of the entire organization by increasing the Toxicology Department output and caseload  turnaround times and expediting the results to families.”

 

Support state drug overdose surveillance objectives under the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) grant by continuing the maintenance plan so that the Liquid Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer in the OMETS toxicology lab undergoes routine maintenance to assure top performance, prevent unexpected downtown, and extend the life of the equipment.
