Summary Explanation/Background

THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL PERMITTING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THIS MOTION.

This action supports the goal of ensuring accessible, seamlessly integrated investments in renewable energy, sustainable practices, manufacturing, resilient infrastructure, and environmental protection. Funding a tree planting project achieves the goal of sustainable practices by increasing the County’s tree canopy.

The Construction Management Division has submitted a request for funding from the Tree Preservation Trust Fund (Fund) in the amount of $18,969 for the purchase and installation of 59 trees for the South Household Hazardous Waste Operator’s Station located in the City of West Park. The Countywide portion of the Fund (funds allocated for Countywide use) contains approximately $562,769 in unencumbered and pre-encumbered funds (Exhibit 1); however, there are several potential projects totaling $198,750 (Exhibit 2) that may be funded from the remaining unencumbered Countywide funds.  It is expected that these projects would be brought back to the Board for approval once approved by the Tree Preservation Trust Fund Committee.
