Summary Explanation/Background

THE BROWARD COUNTY LIBRARIES DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

On December 15, 1992, the School Board and the County entered a 50-year agreement for a library to be constructed on land owned by the City of Pembroke Pines (City) to be utilized by both the School Board, as a media center for the Walter C. Young Middle School, and as a public library by the County.

On December 3, 1996, the School Board, the County, and the City entered into a Lease Agreement to allow the School Board and the County to lease the land owned by the City on which to construct the Library, also with a 50-year lease term. The Agreement requires the Parties to share equally in the cost of major enhancements, repairs or building replacement to the Library.

The School Board and the County agree that major enhancements and repairs are required for the Library including replacement of the roof, carpeting, HVAC and related electrical conduit and wiring, fire alarm system, and patching and painting areas impacted by such work. The School Board, as the owner of the library building, initiated and completed the construction project. The parties agree to the scope of work and costs associated with the modernization project. The total cost of the project is $1,381,602; the County is responsible for 50% or $690,801 to be paid to the School Board with in thirty days after full execution of the first Amendment.
