Summary Explanation/Background

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT/REAL PROPERTY AND REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENT DIVISION RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

This item relates to activities in the Broward Municipal Services District (BMSD), formerly known as Unincorporated Broward County. The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of the District and provides municipal services for the area.

To improve resiliency during hurricanes, severe weather and enhance reliability during day-to-day conditions, Florida Power & Light Company’s (“FPL”) lateral hardening program, also known as the Storm Secure Underground Program, is converting overhead neighborhood lines to underground. The electric lines serving the lift station located at Broward Memorial Post 180 (a/k/a American Legion Post 180) site address 1280 SW 44th Terrace in the Broward Municipal Services District have been selected to be converted to underground via this program. The lift station is currently managed by Broward County (“County”) Water and Wastewater Services.

To complete the conversion to underground, FPL is requesting a perpetual, non-exclusive underground easement (“Easement”) from the County to place the necessary equipment to serve the lift station.

The Easement has been reviewed and approved for legal sufficiency by the Office of the County Attorney.
