Why Action is Necessary

Section 3½-13(a) of the Broward County Code of Ordinances provides the Board of County Commissioners to immediately issue or direct the County Administrator to issue one or more temporary Certificates, not to exceed 90 days.

 

What Action Accomplishes

Allows the County Administrator to issue a temporary Certificate to RG Ambulance Service, Inc., d/b/a Century Ambulance Service, to avoid service interruptions and continue emergency backup ambulance services.

On September 7, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners approved a Motion to Direct the County Administrator to issue a temporary Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to RG Ambulance Service, Inc., d/b/a Century Ambulance Service, and to authorize the County Administrator to extend the temporary Certificate for an additional 90 days, if necessary.

 

Summary Explanation/Background

THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE CONSUMER PROTECTION DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.

 

On September 7, 2023, the Board of County Commissioners approved a Motion to Direct the County Administrator to issue a temporary Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity to RG Ambulance Service, Inc., d/b/a Century Ambulance Service, and to authorize the County Administrator to extend the temporary Certificate for an additional 90 days, if necessary.  The temporary Certificate is due to expire on March 14, 2024.

 

Due to a public hearing not being able to be scheduled prior to March 14, 2024, an issuance of a temporary Certificate is requested to avoid service interruptions and continue emergency backup ambulance services as it is in the best interest of the health, safety, welfare, and convenience of Broward County.
