Summary Explanation/Background

THE RESILIENT ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT AND THE URBAN PLANNING DIVISION RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THIS MOTION.

The Historic Preservation Board (HPB) desires to honor some of the cultural and historic sites lost to development through the implementation of the Historic Marker Program.

At their meeting on April 20, 2023, the HPB passed a Resolution (Exhibit 1) recommending the Board allocate $15,000 from the Historic Preservation Trust Fund to support the Historic Marker Program. The funds would be used to fabricate markers to be mounted on, or near, sites lost to development. It is anticipated that the initial request would provide for the manufacture of up to three markers. The current balance of the Historic Trust Fund is $223,359 (Exhibit 2).
