Section 341.052, Florida Statutes, and Section 14-73.001, Florida Administrative Code, require the Board of County Commissioners (Board), as the transit system's governing body, to develop and adopt a Transit Development Plan (TDP) and provide annual updates to receive state public transit block grant funds.

What Action Accomplishes
Approves the Broward County (2023-2032) Transit Development Plan (TDP) Annual Update, which upon final approval by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), continues the Broward County Transportation Department's (BCT) participation in state public transit block grant funding for operating and maintenance expenses, for an estimated $11,274,821 in state funding to be awarded for State Fiscal Year 2024 (July 1, 2023-June 30, 2024).

THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL

This item supports the Board's Vision and Goals for an "Efficient and Accessible Regional Intermodal Transportation Network".

In 1990, the Florida Legislature enacted Section 341.052, F.S., which established a State Public Transit Block Grant Program to be administered by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The program provides Broward County funding assistance on an annual basis for fixed-route bus service operating costs.
