Why Action is Necessary
Board approval is required to increase a capital project budget by more than 5%. The Board is the governing authority of Broward County's transit operator, FTA grantee, and sponsor of the Broward Commuter Rail South project.

Increases the Fiscal Year 2023 Broward Commuter Rail South budget to recognize Broward County's local match of 25%.

Summary Explanation/Background
THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT RECOMMENDS APPROVAL OF THE ABOVE MOTION.
This item supports the Board's Connected Community Goal of "Cooperatively delivering an efficient and accessible regional intermodal transportation network."
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) discretionary Capital Investment Grant (CIG) program funds transit capital investments, including heavy rail, commuter rail, light rail, streetcars, and bus rapid transit. The Transportation Department (BCT) will be applying for a Small Starts grant under FTA's CIG program for the Broward Commuter Rail South Project (BCRS) in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation. In order to be consistent with FDOT's five-year work program and the Broward MPO's Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), a budget amendment of $74,250,00 is required to recognize the full local 25% match for the project.
